One tool for PDFs and scanned images
Upload forms for jobs, colleges, scholarships, banks and government services almost always limit document size: "PDF under 200 KB", "scanned copy under 500 KB". Your document might be a PDF from a scanner app or a photo of the page. This tool accepts both. It compresses PDFs with Ghostscript and images with JPEG compression, aiming for the highest quality that stays under the limit you set.
How PDFs are resized
The tool tries several compression levels, from print quality down to screen quality and lower, and keeps the first one that comes in under your limit. Text in a digital PDF stays sharp; images and scanned pages are reduced. If even the strongest level cannot reach the limit - for example a 40-page scanned PDF under 100 KB - you get the smallest version possible and a clear message, so you know to split the file or remove pages.
How images are resized
For a JPG, PNG or WebP scan, JPEG quality is lowered step by step and, only if needed, the pixel size is reduced. The result is a JPG at or under your limit.
Tips for documents that keep their quality
- Scan at 150-200 DPI - 300 DPI or more creates huge files without making text easier to read on screen.
- One document per file - upload each certificate separately if each has its own limit.
- Crop the edges - remove the table or background around a photographed page before uploading.
- Unlock first - password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can be resized.
