When you need an SVG as WebP
SVG is ideal for logos and icons on your own website, but many places won't accept it: social networks, online marketplaces, email newsletters, messaging apps and most CMS image fields. WebP is supported by every modern browser and is much smaller than PNG, so converting gives you a lightweight image you can upload almost anywhere.
How the conversion works
Each SVG is rendered at a high resolution (300 DPI), so edges and text stay crisp even on high-resolution screens. The result is saved as WebP at quality 85, which keeps fine detail while producing a small file. Transparent areas of your SVG stay transparent in the WebP.
SVG vs WebP vs PNG
- SVG - vector: scales to any size without blurring. Best for logos and icons on your own site, but often rejected by upload forms.
- WebP - raster: small files with transparency, supported by all modern browsers. Best for the web when you can't use SVG.
- PNG - raster: transparency with larger files. The safest choice for older software - use SVG to PNG if WebP isn't accepted.
Tips for the best result
- Keep your original SVG. A WebP is made of pixels, so if you need a bigger version later, convert again from the SVG.
- Convert text to outlines first. If your SVG uses a custom font, convert text to paths in your design app so the lettering looks exactly as you designed it.
