The Facebook cover photo size
A Facebook cover photo displays at 820x312 pixels on desktop and 640x360 on phones, so Facebook shows a slightly different crop on each. Working to the 820x312 desktop size and keeping anything important near the centre is the safe approach. This tool builds an exact 820x312 image so your cover looks intentional instead of stretched or awkwardly cut.
Crop to fill or fit
- Crop to fill scales the image to cover the wide banner and trims the top and bottom - best for a wide landscape photo.
- Fit (blurred edges) shows the whole image with a soft blur on the sides - useful when you do not want to lose any of the picture.
- Fit (colour) places the image on a solid colour band, a clean look for a logo or text banner.
Mind the mobile crop
Because phones crop the sides and desktop crops the top and bottom, keep your logo, faces or text within the central area that both views show. Start from an image at least 820 pixels wide for a sharp result. The same approach works for a Facebook Group or Event cover. Everything runs on your device, so your image is never uploaded and there is no watermark.
