PNG already supports transparency - so why remove a background?

PNG can store transparent pixels, but most PNGs do not use that - a screenshot, a design export, or a photo saved as PNG usually still has a solid, opaque background. This tool finds the subject and makes everything else genuinely transparent, whether or not the file had any transparency to begin with.

My PNG already looks flat - will this actually change anything?
Yes. Even if the file format supports transparency, the image itself usually has an ordinary solid background until you run it through a tool like this one.
Will it keep any transparency my PNG already has?
The output is rebuilt around the detected subject, so any existing transparency is superseded by the new transparent background.
