Make a passport size photo from any picture
An Indian passport photo is a portrait of about 4.5 x 3.5 cm with the face centred and a plain light background. Whether you need it for an online application, a print shop order, or another document that asks for passport size, this tool crops your photo to the right proportions and compresses it to a sensible file size. You can print the result at a photo lab or upload it where a portal accepts a passport photo.
How passport photos are used online
For a fresh Indian passport through Passport Seva, the photograph is usually captured at the Passport Seva Kendra, so you may not upload one. But many other services - visas, PAN, exams, bank KYC and school forms - ask for a "passport size photo", and that is where resizing your own picture to the right shape and file size saves a trip to the studio. The 413x531 pixels shown here match the 4.5x3.5 cm ratio; use Custom if your service states different numbers.
Tips for a clean passport photo
- Plain white or light background, even lighting, no shadows.
- Full face to camera, neutral expression, both ears visible.
- No cap and no coloured glasses; remove anything covering the face.
- Leave a little space above the head when you crop.
If a service also needs a plain background and your photo does not have one, use the Remove Background tool first, then resize here.
