From picture to editable Word document
Retyping text from a photo is slow and error-prone. This tool uses OCR (optical character recognition) to find the words in your image and writes them into a Word document, one paragraph per line, so you can edit, format, copy or translate the text in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages.
What it works well on
- Photos of printed letters, notices, book pages and handouts.
- Screenshots of documents, emails, chats and websites.
- Scanned forms and typed pages saved as JPG or PNG.
Limitations to know
The tool is tuned for English printed text. Other languages that use the Latin alphabet, such as Spanish, German or Portuguese, are often recognised, but accented letters may need correcting. Hindi, Gujarati and other non-Latin scripts are not supported yet. Handwriting is recognised poorly. The Word file contains the text only; images, tables and the original layout are not reproduced.
How to get the best result
- Shoot straight on - hold the camera directly above the page so the lines are level.
- Use good light - avoid shadows and glare across the text.
- Crop to the text - remove backgrounds, photos and logos before uploading.
- Check numbers and names - always compare those against the original.
Several pages?
For a multi-page scanned document, use OCR PDF to make the whole PDF searchable, or PDF to Word for PDFs that already contain text. Your image is deleted from our server as soon as the text has been read.
