Why DV Lottery photo validation is critical
Every year, millions of applicants enter the US Green Card Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV Lottery). Over 30% of entries are disqualified automatically by computer algorithms without notification due to non-compliant photographs. The State Department's automated validator checks file dimensions, color depth, head size ratios, and background uniformity.
Strict technical requirements for DV lottery photos
- Dimensions: Exactly 600 x 600 pixels (square 1:1 aspect ratio).
- Color: 24-bit sRGB color (monochrome or black-and-white is strictly prohibited).
- File Size: Less than or equal to 240 KB (kilobytes).
- Head Height: 50% to 69% of the photo's total height from bottom of chin to top of hair.
- No Alterations: Retouching skin, altering facial features, or removing background digitally with visible halos is prohibited.
