A PDF editor that keeps your file private

Most online editors upload your document to their servers. This one doesn't: the PDF is opened, edited and rebuilt entirely inside your browser, so contracts, bank statements and ID documents never leave your device. It also means there is no waiting for uploads - even large files open quickly.

How the editing engine actually works

This tool runs two well-established browser-compatible libraries together entirely on your own device: one renders your PDF's actual pages so you see and interact with the real content, and the other rebuilds a genuine new PDF file incorporating every edit you've made. Editing existing text works by detecting the original text's exact position, size, font, and color, covering it with a matching background patch, and placing your replacement text in that same style - which is why a correction blends in rather than looking like an obvious sticker slapped on top.

What you can do

  • Edit existing text - click a line with Edit text to fix a typo, a date, a name or an amount. The new text matches the original size, colour and style.
  • Add text anywhere - fill in forms that aren't fillable, add notes, dates or names. Choose the font, size, colour and bold.
  • Add images such as a logo, stamp, photo or signature, then drag and resize them.
  • Draw boxes, lines and freehand marks to point things out, or highlight important passages.
  • Whiteout - cover text or details you want to hide with a white box, then type over it if you like.
  • Manage pages - rotate, reorder or delete pages, insert blank pages, or add the pages of another PDF.

Why edited text looks seamless

Rather than simply pasting new text in a generic font over the original, the editor reads the specific font, size, and color the original text used and applies that same styling to your correction, which is what makes a fixed date or corrected name look like it was part of the document from the start rather than an obviously patched edit. Very unusual or specialty fonts get replaced with the closest available standard font, since not every custom font can be perfectly replicated in a browser-based editor.

Good to know

Your additions are saved as real PDF content: typed English text stays sharp and searchable, and the original pages keep their quality and links. Text in scripts such as Hindi or Gujarati is saved as a high-resolution image so it always displays correctly. Edit text and Whiteout cover the original visually - the old text is hidden, not deleted from the file, so it could still be copied out. They are ideal for corrections; for sensitive information that must be gone completely, delete the page or recreate the document. Scanned PDFs can be edited the same way - to make their text searchable, use our OCR PDF tool afterwards.

Why "hidden, not deleted" matters for sensitive corrections

This distinction is worth understanding clearly before relying on Edit text or Whiteout for anything truly sensitive: covering a social security number or account detail visually hides it from normal viewing, but the original data technically remains in the file's underlying structure and could still be extracted by someone who specifically knows to look for it. For a typo fix or date correction, this limitation doesn't matter at all. For permanently removing genuinely sensitive information, deleting the entire page or starting from a clean source document is the more reliable approach.

Who actually needs this, and why

Anyone who needs to fix a typo, date, or figure in a PDF without recreating the whole document from scratch. Freelancers and small businesses filling in forms that aren't natively fillable, adding text directly where a form expects it. People annotating a document with highlights, notes, or markup before sharing it for review. Users reorganizing a PDF's pages - rotating, reordering, inserting, or deleting - all within the same tool rather than switching between several different single-purpose tools.

Privacy

Nothing is ever uploaded. The entire editing session - opening, editing, and rebuilding your PDF - happens locally in your browser, and the file never touches our servers at any point during the process.

Working with a large PDF

Since all the processing happens in your browser rather than on a server, the practical limit on file size comes down to your own device's available memory rather than an upload restriction - files up to 100 MB are supported, which comfortably covers the vast majority of everyday documents, including lengthy scanned contracts and reports.

Adding content from another PDF

If you need to combine pages from a separate PDF into the one you're editing - inserting a signed signature page, or appending additional supporting pages - the page management tools let you add another PDF's pages directly into your current document, keeping everything in one combined file rather than needing a separate merge step afterward.

Checking your result before downloading

Before finalizing, it's worth scrolling through every page once to confirm each edit landed exactly where intended and that any whiteout or text correction blends in convincingly at normal viewing size - a quick review that catches far more issues than assuming every edit worked perfectly on the first try without checking.

Why this works well for correcting an official-looking document

Documents like certificates, forms, and official letters often have a specific font, layout, and visual style that's easy to accidentally break with a generic text overlay - a correction in the wrong font or size immediately looks out of place next to the original content. Because this editor specifically detects and matches the original text's exact styling before placing your correction, the result stays visually consistent with the rest of the document, which matters a great deal for anything that needs to look professionally finished rather than visibly patched.

Starting over if something goes wrong

If an edit doesn't come out the way you intended, the "Start over" option lets you reload your original PDF fresh and begin again, which is often faster and cleaner than trying to undo a specific change buried among several others - particularly useful early in an editing session before you've invested significant time in other edits you'd want to keep.

Questions & Answers

Is my PDF uploaded to your server?
No. The whole editor runs in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded, so it stays private and nothing is stored.
Can I change the existing text in the PDF?
Yes. Choose Edit text and click any line: the original is covered with a patch in the page's background colour and you type the new wording in a matching size, colour and style. Very unusual fonts are replaced with the closest standard font.
Will the quality of my pages change?
No. The original pages are copied into the new PDF as they are, and your text, images and shapes are added on top.
Can I edit a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know the password), then open the unlocked file here.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap a tool, then tap or drag on the page. Tap a selected text box again to edit it, and use the round handle to resize.
